Evaluating effects of organic matters and an antagonistic fungus in controlling Meloidogyne javanica on tomato

At present work, effects of 14 methods to control Meloidogyne javanica on tomato were investigated. Salycilic acid (SA), oil cakes amendments, fresh leaves of canola (biofumigation), soil solarization, biocontrol, biocontrol with olive cake amendment were compared with Rugby nematicide in greenhouse conditions. Soil solarization for 3 weeks was the most effective method in reducing number of galls and egg masses by 99% and final nematode population by 96%. Pochonia chlamydosporia var. chlamydosporia reduced gall and egg mass number by 76% and final nematode density by 65%. Seed priming with 50 ppm SA controlled galls and egg masses by 76% and final nematode population by 44%. Soil biofumigation with 2% canola leaves lessened galls and egg mass density by 78% and nematode density by 45%. Soil amendment with 1 and 4% canola cake decreased galls and egg mass by 67% and nematode reproduction by 39%. Gall and egg mass numbers were decreased by 64% and nematode density by 37% in soil amended with 1% soy cake; whereas these parameters were lessened by 80 and54% respectively in 4% soy cake amendment. Plants grown in soil amended with olive cake did not grow and show severe burning and chlorosis. Galls and egg masses on plants grew in soil treated with 10% a.i. Rugby were reduced by 98% and final nematode density in these pots were lessened by 94%.
