In recent years, many activities on rainwater harvesting system in urban and rural areas have been done. Studies show that the estimation of runoff coefficient for rainwater harvesting projects have been faced with the problems. For this purpose the project of a Study of the rainfall-runoff relationship in urban catchments as a subset of the research project of evaluation of rainwater harvesting technique for landscaping irrigation (case study) and were done. The projects were sponsored by the local municipality of Mashhad and were done at Khorasan Razavi research center building no. 2. For this purpose, first using digital mapping of mentioned rainwater harvesting project, different physical parameters needed for the project area, such as area, slope, etc. has been determined. Then installing the rain gage and water level recorder in storage tank, the amount of rainfall and runoff was measured simultaneously. Using the statistical analysis, the runoff coefficient for different levels of depth and intensity of rainfall was determined. Furthermore, the threshold of runoff after each rainfall event was determined. The average of runoff coefficient is about 0.62 and the rainfall threshold for runoff generation is 0.6 mm. Based on the measured data for rainfall and runoff, a rainfall runoff model was developed with and the model accuracy was good in the prediction of runoff. Keywords: Rainwater harvesting, rainfall, runoff coefficient, runoff threshold
