Use of Mashhad refined waste water for wheat, forage corn and tomato Crops.

Due to increasing demand of water for domestic, commercial and industrial purposes, the issue of treating and recycling wastewater will play an important role in water management especially in arid and semi-arid zones. Success in using treated waste water for crop production will largely depend on adopting appropriate strategies aimed at optimizing crop yields and quality maintaining soil productivity and safe quardening the environment. The present study is aimed at verifying the possibility of reusing treated wastewater of Mashhad for irrigation of wheat ,tomtato and forage corn. The research has been carried out in the Amerghan village near the Parkandabad Waste Water Treatment Plants in 1388-1390, using a randomized complete block design with three replications.Two treatment were used for irrigation, including well water and treated wastewater. Results showed that application of wastewater increased crop yields. In wheat ,application of treated wastewater increased grain yield and harvest index.Treated wastewater increased wet yield of forage corn. Irrigation with treated wastewater had positive effect on qualitative characteristis of tomato such as moisture content, , pH and TSS (Brix). In general, application of wastewater enriched soil and crops. The amount of heavy metals in soil and plants irrigated with wastewater were lower than standard limits. Based on other investigations, the use of sewage tend to increase the contents of heavy metals in soil and plants. Therefore it can be concluded that monitoring of the soils and plants for heavy metal concenterations during the wastewater application is necessary.
