Discrimination of geomorphic surfaces is a basis for soil mapping in the context of geopedologic approach for soil mapping. This project was conducted in east-west Alamoot area to delimit the existing geomorphic surfaces as a prerequisite for soil mapping in the area. Field activities were performed in January-June 2013, followed by map production and report writing in September 2014. Four geomorphic surfaces were identified in the studied areas which include landscape relief/ molding, lithology and landform. At landscape level the following geomorphic surfaces were distinguished: mountain and piedmont in Bagh-dasht area, piedmont in Amiran area, piedmont, mountain and valley in Dastjerd and Sorkhdozak areas. These geomorphs were later subdivided at relief/molding and landform levels, leading to separation of most uniform land portions having similar geomorphological and geological characteristics. The results of this project were used as a basis for conducting two other projects to fulfill the objectives of the research plan under the title Soil Survey and Land Evaluation of Alamoot Area for Development of Orchards in the Frings of Shah Rud River, Qazvin Province . Key word: geomorphic surfaces, soil mapping, Alamoot area : Abstract
