The black locust is a major honey plant in Korea, which has blooming period of about 10 days. This plant produces nectar about one month from early May in the southern area to early June in the northern area of the demilitarized zone. The honey production capacity of colony was evaluated by weight gain of hive between one cross breed and two beekeeper’s colonies collected from two apiaries in blooming period of black locust. The results showed that weight gain of the cross breed was approximately 31% and 51% higher than that of beekeeper’s colonies, and the quantity of nectar collected by one worker was 19% and 43% higher than that of apiary colonies respectively. The cross breed was similar to beekeeper’s colonies in development stage as cell size of eggs and larva, cell size of pupa, however the number of workers was better than th.
