Comparison of Implicit Leadership Prototype between China and Korea

The objectives of this study were to identify leadership behaviors for making an outstanding Chinese or Korean leader, and to investigate the difference of ILT between Chinese and Korean. For this study, t-test was performed on data collected from 464 Chinese employees who have been working for Chinese domestic corporations and Korean subsidiaries in China, and 248 Korean employees who have been working for Korean domestic corporations. The results of this study were as follows: First, Chinese outstanding leader was expected to be inspirational, visionary, decisive, diplomatic, and to have integrity. Second, Korean outstanding leader was expected to be decisive, inspirational, collaborative team-oriented, visionary, and a team integrator. Third, a significant difference between Chinese and Korean employees emerged on the prototypicality rating of 9 leadership behaviors. Fourth, a significant difference between Chinese and Korean employees emerged on 4 leadership dimensions. The possible influences of cultural differences between two countries were discussed.
