Effectiveness of nitrogen (N) fertilizer application in winter wheat ‘Kranich’ integrated fertilizing system was studied in the field trial at the Research and Study Farm ”Vecauce” of the Latvia University of Agriculture in 2013/2014. Fertilizer treatments were: N0 (without fertilizer), N85, N150 (rates determined by chlorophylmeter), N153, N175 with sulphur 21 kg haE-1, and N187 kg haE-1. Sulphur is an essential element for obtaining quality grains for baking bread; however, sulphur deficiency in soil has become more widespread in recent years. Optimal sulphur content provides high grain yield and food quality. The highest winter wheat yield (5.20 t haE-1) was obtained in the variant N187. The increase of yield was obtained by nitrogen fertilizer till N150. The application of chlorophylmeter is a relevant method to determine the necessity of nitrogen fertilizer rate at different growth stages. Nitrogen fertilizer in the variants from 150 kg haE-1 provides A Class food grain quality. The highest gross profit 1 EUR 626.11 haE-1 was obtained in the variant with nitrogen rate 187 kg haE-1.
