Growth of recreational forest areas corresponded with the trend of forest recreation activities. With higher arrival of visitors distributed all over forests, the capacity management of recreational forest is becoming more challenging. This needs for well-equipped personnel and systematic management on the ground. By providing the suitable recreational activities with the effective administration and planning followed by capturing the economic values from the recreational activities can ensure the sustainability use of the forest. With reference to the Taman Negara, capacity building to provide opportunity for the local community, including its own personnel to be involved in providing recreational services and activities. A study was conducted in Kuala Tahan, where a community-based model of Taman Negara can be introduced. This model could be used as a basis to produce a strategy for local community participation. Proffesional enhancement would lead to community awareness on the important of resource conservation and understand sustainable development and income generation for the development. A similar opportunity is available in Matang Nature Educational Centre, Taiping. With its resources and facilities that area available for visitor usage, it has potential to involve local community in tourism activities while being use as sustainable management tool for Matang Mangrove Forest. Through education and training provided to the local communities and department personnel, the opportunities to have alternative income for locals in providing recreational activities and strengthening the platform in promoting world recognized forest sustainable practice and resource conservation in Matang.
