Mostrar más [+] Menos [-]This thesis focuses on the problem of feed shortage and the potential of Stylosanthes guianensis CIAT 184 (Stylo 184) and Andropogon gayanus cv. Kent (Gamba grass) for feeding growing goats in smallholder farming systems in Lao PDR. Formal and informal surveys were conducted in six villages in Xieng Nguen district, Luangphabang provice, with in total 45 farmers to obtain knowledge of goat productivity in thE area. In the selection of households to be interviewed, priority to goat raising farmers was given first and secondly to farmers representing different agricultural systems and wealth groups. Information collected included the broad agricultural systems and activities in the village, number of goats per family, local feed resources and availability during the year, reproductive performance, the main problems farmers are experiencing in raising goats in the village and the farmer's priorities for overcoming these problems.
