This work is the result of more than a decade of research on the development and implementation of a pig breeding practices of a fundamentally new direction for Belarus - DNA technology. The research was realized in the conditions of the Republic of Belarus in the Vitebsk State Academy of Veterinary Medicine. The main focus was on improving the genetic potential of local breeds of pigs, the creation of new high-genotypes on the basis of methods of DNA technologies (marker dependent selection). Genetic basis of rock formation, use of genetic reserves of hidden mutational variability in breeding pigs, DNA-markers of predisposition to hereditary of pigs and infectious diseases, DNA markers of reproductive traits of pigs, the association of complex genotypes in DNA markers with major selected productivity indices of pigs were considered. As a result of realized research it was revealed that the introduction of the practice of breeding marker genes can increase farrow sows on average by 11% or more, reduce the proportion of stillborn piglets to 2.5%, and emergency farrow-to 3.4%, improve the safety of piglets to weaning at 10%, fattening and meat production by 5-10%, create a resistant to stress and colisepticaemia of pig herd. Use of genomic selection can improve the efficiency of breeding up to 30%, and the probability of the transmission characteristics of the offspring will increase many times over.
