One of the most relevant tasks of soil tillage appears creation of homogeneous, nonstratified cultivated surface, supplying necessary conditions for the plant growth and development, determining high crop yield level. The second important task of the cultivation process appears weed destruction, realized through weed roots cutting and mulching of them into the soil surface. Mouldboard ploughing represents the most effective method of soil tillage, solving the problem of weed control. But high energy consumption of the mouldboard ploughing (more than 50%) of total tillage expenses) enforces to develop effective substitution of traditional ploughing system. The advantages and disadvantages of different types of ploughs are given in the article. It's shown that in proper organization of field preparation, ploughing with using mouldboard plough is more efficient than ploughing with turnwrest plough, with the same quality.
