Predatory fish, especially European catfish, appear a perspective object of pond fishery, possessing high growth rates, delicious meat and low bones content. Wide spectrum of feeding of European catfish allows utilization such feeding objects and frogs, water insects, leeches and ill fish, representing European catfish a pond sanitary assistant and bio-ameliorator, improving the ecological conditions of the water. The article contains the guidelines and standards of breeding and growing of European catfish, developed and based upon the results of ten years studies (2001-2010) in pond farms of the Republic of Belarus. Suggested guidelines, developed by Institute for Fish Industry of the Scientific and Practical Center of Animal Breeding of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus allow receiving of necessary number of breeding material of European catfish and growing of this fish species as needed.
