Medicinal plants appear a natural source of biologically active substances, used in pharmacological, food and perfumery industries. Cell technologies allow solving the problem of raw materials deficit and provide preservation of natural reserves of drug plants. Cell and tissue culture along with micro-plants in vitro may be used as the main source of biologically active substances. Lack of knowledge in the sphere of physiology and biochemistry of plant tissue cultures promotes further research of the problem. The main goal of the research appears evaluation of the physiological peculiarities and comparative analysis of the status of ferment antioxidant system (according the activity of peroxidase of guaiacol type and superoxide dismutase of drug plant Saint-Mary-thistle (Silybum marianum) of two species - red-flowered and white-flowered. Physiological and biochemical characteristics of red and white flowers of Silybum marianum during introduction in vitro culture and in callusogenesis are detected in the article. The differences in the protein content and antioxidant system (for peroxidase activity of guaiacol type and superoxide dismutase) in root and seed leaves explants of the red and white flowers and initiated from these calluses are illustrated.
