The Congress is dedicated to creating a platform for exchanging the latest research results and sharing the advanced research methods in various sectors of bioeconomy, sustainable agriculture and rural development. The Congress program embraces a wide range of topics in agriculture including crop farming, animal welfare, farm management, sustainable land management and also food quality and safety, environment protection, agriculture policy, economic and social aspects of rural development, education and consulting in agriculture and many others. For the first time the Congress of the Nordic Association of Agricultural Scientists (NJF) takes place in the Baltic States – in Riga, often called “Paris of the North”, and the Congress organiser - Latvian National Association of NJF. NJF is the oldest Nordic organization established in 1918. It is a living, dynamic organisation with 1.500 members in eight countries – Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania – all interested in agriculture in a broad perspective and its important role in the society. The Congress is one of the associate events of the Latvian Presidency of the Council of the European Union and it is organized by the Latvian National Association of the NJF together with the NJF Board and Scientific Committee, the Latvian Academy of Science, Latvia Academy of Agricultural and Forestry Science, Latvia University of Agriculture, Latvia University and Ministry of Agriculture of Latvia.
