The aim was to make the work of spring barley collection assessment of natural and artificial infection conditions to identify against loose smut resistant varieties. Spring barley varieties resistance evaluation against loose smut made State Stende Institute of Cereal Breeding. The article summarizes the 26 spring barley varieties included in the National Catalogue of Plant Varieties, results of the evaluation of the natural infection conditions in breeding crop rotation fields from 2009 to 2013. The seed is etched with Maxim Star 035FS 1.0 L tE-1. During flowering, the recording of plants infected with loose smut were done, 10 m2, 3 replicates, calculated on the number of plants infected per square m. From 2013 to 2015 loose smut infection provocations and artificial infection backgrounds were established in immunity rotation field. In conditions of conventional cultivation of flaky varieties 'Rasa', 'Christopher', 'Idumeja', 'Prestige' and hulless barley cultivar 'Kornelija' during five years infection with loose smut there was no. Seed pickling does not provide complete protection against loose smut. Germination of the artificially infected seeds with loose smut was reduced (average 70%). During two cycles of infection against loose smut resistant spring barley genotypes have been identified to be used in breeding work.
