The impact of the age of working bees Apis mellifera, populated in the mating nuclei, on the queens mating efficiency has been identified. The experiment was done on three batches of nuclei for queens mating, of which batch I was populated with working bees of all ages, batch II with young working bees aged up to 10 days, and batch III with old working bees aged over 10 days. The highest rate of queens acceptance (93.3 ± 4.6 %), the highest rate of successful return of the queens from the mating flight (96.4 ± 3.6 %), and the oldest age of the queens at the start of eggs-laying (13.5 ± 0.12 days) were recorded in the mating nuclei from batch II. The lowest rate (73.3 ± 8.1 %) of queens acceptance, the lowest rate of queens successful return from the mating flight (72.7 ± 9.5 %), and the lowest age of the queens at the start of eggs-laying (11.5 ± 0.13 days) were recorded in the nuclei populated by old bees (batch III). The value of these indices was intermediate in the nuclei from the batch I. As a result, the following conclusion has been made: populating mating nuclei with young bees (aged up to 10 days) increases, compared to nuclei populated with old bees, queens acceptance rate by 27.3 % and the rate of queens successful return from mating flight by 32.6%; the queens from mating nuclei populated with young bees begin the eggs-laying 2 days later, compared to the queens from the nuclei populated with old bees; during a beekeeping season, 100 nuclei populated with young bees may produce by 59.9 mated queens more compared to the nuclei populated with old bees.
