This paper describes the results of the efforts made to solve the problem of updating the waste regulatory system in the Republic of Moldova in the years of independence. The problems of waste accumulation, reutilization and/or elimination and environmental issues are very acute in the Republic of Moldova, a country with high human population density, predominantly agrarian economy, and a weak trend of sustainable development. Databases on the regulatory acts in the area of wastes have been developed based on studies, selection, and permanent complement. The results have demonstrated that at this stage, the 23rd anniversary of independence of the Republic of Moldova, as of August 27, 2014, the set of regulatory acts (standards) are as follows: the number of international standards and adjoining documents tailored to the country makes 103 acts, of which 86 are SM standards and 17 GOST standards. The degree of the conformity with international provisions has reached 83.5%. The bases of ISO and EU legislation have also been studied. This paper presents the characteristics of the state and some results of the qualitative and comparative analyses of the regulatory acts (standards) from various sources, the dynamic development of the waste standard system in the Republic Moldova and its compliance with the requirements of EU environmental policy and sustainable development of the Republic of Moldova. The final part of the paper includes conclusions and some proposals for the development of the standard system and the ways of its implementation in production, reutilization, elimination of wastes and environmental protection in the Republic of Moldova.
