Genotype x environment interaction has a direct effect on the yield stability and adaptability of the genotypes in different environments. Multi-Environment Trial (referred as MET) is a sound strategy in evaluating advanced breeding lines for wide adaptability or location-specific adaptation under highly variable rainfed lowland. In 2012-2013, 72 rice breeding lines and eight high yielding check varieties were evaluated in trials laid in alpha lattice design with three replications in six rainfed areas in Nueva Ecija, Batac, Cagayan, Isabela, Negros and Iloilo-Additive Main Effects and Multiplicative Interaction (AMMI) analysis indicated that the grain yield of the breeding lines was significantly affected (p0.01) by environment (E), genotype (G) and G x E interaction (GEI). Genetic variation exist making selection of stable line(s) in specific location feasible. The first three principal component axes (PCA 1, PCA 2, and PCA 3) which explain the effect of interaction from the additive model were highly significant, where the first two PCA's explained 50.1% of the total GEI. Of the total 80 entries, 12 breeding lines, and two check varieties, PSB RC68 and NSIC RC222 had stable and high yield across environments. The line PR 39289-B-23-B-2-1 exhibited specific adaptation to Isabela in 2013; PR 39167-B-24-1-B-3, PR 39949-B-6-2-2-2, PR 39172-B-19-B-B-3 to Negros in 2012; PR 39923-B-1-B-2-2 to Nueva Ecija in 2013; PR 42837-NSIC Rc222-SM-DR-15 to Negros in 2013; PR 42837-NSIC Rc222-SM-DR-7 and PR 38460-B-8-1-B-B to Batac in 2013; and PR 42837-NSIC Rc222-SM-DR-35 and PR 42837-NSIC Rc222-SM-DR-9 to Nueva Ecija in 2012. The line PR 42837-NSIC Rc222-SM-DR-9 had higher and stable yield (3.13 t/ha) across environments compared to the check varieties with mean yield of 2.38 t/ha and population with mean yield of 2.43 t/ha.
