Blood enzymatic activity in Saanen goats during different periods of the reproductive cycle and their relation to the completion of pregnancy

The study involved the investigation of the activity of metabolic enzymes in the blood of Saanen goats depending on the period of the reproductive cycle and the ability for pregnancy maintenance. The enzyme status of animals was assessed during the pre-mating period, the first half of pregnancy (1.5-2.5 months), and the second half of pregnancy (3.5-4.0 months). Goats were divided into two groups: these with the completed reproductive cycle (the birth of viable offspring, n = 15) and these with the interrupted reproductive cycle (abortions in the second half of pregnancy, n = 6). Samples of blood serum were tested to determine concentrations of total protein and the activity of several enzymes: aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), gamma glutamyltransferase (GGT), creatine phosphokinase (CPK), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), and alpha hydroxybutyrate dehydrogenase (isoenzymes of LDH: LDH-1 and LDH-2). The blood activity of AST in the second half of pregnancy in goats with the completed reproductive cycle was 1.2 times lower than that during the pre-mating period or the first half of pregnancy. The activity of ALT in the blood serum of the animals increased 1.3 times by 1.5-2.5 months of pregnancy as compared with the pre-mating period and then decreased 1.9 times by 3.5-4.0 months of pregnancy. Furthermore, there was a decline in the blood activity of GGT (1.3 times), CPK (1.9 times), and the isoenzymes LDH-1 and LDH-2 (1.3 times) and a rise in the activity of ALP (1.4 times) between the first and the second half of pregnancy. During the pre-mating period, a lower activity of ALT and GGT was recorded in goats with the interrupted reproductive cycle as compared with animals with the completed reproductive cycle (14.4±2.9 vs. 20.1±0.7 U/l, and 43.8±2.4 vs. 54.7±4.2 U/l). The results of this study suggest a reduction of the intensity of some metabolic processes in the goats’ organism by the fourth month of pregnancy to maintain increased fetus demands.

Ruso. Изучали активность метаболических ферментов в крови коз зааненской породы в зависимости от периода репродуктивного цикла и способности к поддержанию беременности. Ферментативный статус животных оценивали в предслучной период, в первую половину (1,5-2,5 мес) и вторую половину сукозности (3,5-4,0 мес). Коз разделили на две группы — с завершенным репродуктивным циклом (рождение жизнеспособного потомства, n = 15) и с прерванным репродуктивным циклом (аборты во вторую половину сукозности, n = 6). В пробах сыворотки крови определяли концентрацию общего белка и активность ряда ферментов: аспартатаминотрансферазы (АсАТ), аланинаминотрансферазы (АлАТ), гамма-глутамилтрансферазы (ГГТ), креатинфосфокиназы (КФК), щелочной фосфатазы (ЩФ), лактатдегидрогеназы (ЛДГ) и альфа-гидроксибутиратдегидрогеназы (изоферменты ЛДГ — ЛДГ-1 и ЛДГ-2). Обнаружено, что у коз с завершенным репродуктивным циклом активность АсАТ в крови во вторую половину сукозности в 1,2 раза ниже, чем в предслучной период или в первую половину сукозности. Активность АлАТ в сыворотке крови животных возрастала в 1,3 раза к 1,5-2,5 мес беременности по сравнению с предслучным периодом, а затем снижалась в 1,9 раза к 3,5-4,0 мес беременности. Кроме того, между первой и второй половиной сукозности в крови коз уменьшалась активность ГГТ (в 1,3 раза), КФК (в 1,9 раза) и изоферментов ЛДГ 1 и 2 (в 1,3 раза), тогда как активность щелочной фосфатазы, напротив, возрастала в 1,4 раза. В предслучной период была выявлена более низкая активность АлАТ (14,4±2,9 против 20,1±0,7 ед/л) и ГГТ (43,8±2,4 против 54,7±4,2 ед/л) у коз с прерванным репродуктивным циклом по сравнению с животными, сохранившими беременность. Результаты исследования свидетельствуют о снижении интенсивности ряда обменных процессов в организме коз на 4-й мес. беременности для поддержания возросших потребностей плода. (Табл. 2. Ил. 0.
