Internationalization of graduate education in agriculture in the context of ASEAN
2016
Camacho, J.V.Jr.
The prominence of internalization of graduate education in agriculture is manifested in broad trends and in various shades and strokes. According to Elkin, et al., (2005) and Altbach (2009), Key institutional characteristics and engagements include the international mobility of students, faculty and academic staff members; internationalization of research and curricular programs; and the increasing significance of cross-border higher education provision. This presentation will describe some facets, modes and shades of internationalization of graduate education in the ASEAN region. Against the backdrop of regional economic integration, the paper will illustrate the issues, constraints and challenges confronted in the process of internationalization, including support infrastructure and enabling environment. It will describe the approaches made to embrace the process in order to effectively optimize partnerships with universities abroad and to raise the number of internationalization programs, including the value of collaborative research and curricular offerings while incorporating international cooperation that will ultimately enhance agricultural and rural development.
