Study on selecting hybrid maize varieties for the rocky mountain region, Dong Van district, Ha Giang province

The research was to study the growth and development of 8 promising hybrid maize varieties and the control NK4300 in 2 seasons of spring in years 2012 and 2013 in Dong Van district, Ha Giang province. The research results showed that the growing time of maize varieties ranged from 130 to 137 days (Spring 2012) and from 122 to 125 days (Spring 2013) that suitable for crop rotation model applied in Dong Van district, Ha Giang province. All varieties had falling resistant capacity and good pest control. The actual yield of studied varieties ranged from 5.048 to 6.476 tons/ ha (Spring 2012) and from 5.333 to 6.762 tons/ ha (Spring 2013). CP999 maize varieties had higher and more stable actual yield than others (6.476 to 6.762 tons/ha). Modeling results showed that, the maize varieties of CP999 had good responds from local people and higher actual yield than the control NK4300 0.85 tons/ha, higher economic efficiency of 22.8%.
