Metabolic surgery: nutritional outcomes and health benefits.
2010
Roux, C. W. le | Pournaras, D. J.
Metabolic surgery is not only the most effective treatment for morbid obesity, but also leads to the improvement or remission of a number of comorbidities. In this review, we present the available evidence for the effect of these surgical procedures on different systems using the King's College criteria. Some of these outcomes can be attributed to weight loss; however, there is increasing evidence for weight-loss-independent effects of metabolic surgery.
