The Jurassic deposits containing quartz sand are present only in the south-western part of Latvia. In the result of sedimentological studies by previous authors, the river bed, bar, and floodplain deposits have been identified in the Jurassic succession of Latvia. These studies allow suggesting that the Jurassic quartz sand was accumulated in the meandering river settings. Measurements of cross-stratification reveal various river current directions– mostly to north, west and west-southwest, but also to north-northeast, which confirms an existence of meandering river channels.
