Optimization of transplanting date of fine rice cultivars under a semi-arid environment
2015
Bakhat, B.
To evaluate the effect of transplanting dates on the agro-physiological traits of fine rice sown under agro-ecological conditions of Faisalabad proposed research was conducted at agronomy farm of University of Agriculture, Faisalabad. The experiment was laid out in randomized complete plot design with 3 replicates. It was comprised of two factors i.e. cultivars (Super Basmati and Basmati-515) and transplanting dates (April 23, May 8, May 23, June 7, June 22, July 7, July 22 and August 6). Data regarding growth and yield parameters was recorded using standard procedures and were statistically analyzed by Fisher's analysis of variance technique. The treatments means were compared by using Tukey's honest test at 5% level of probability. The study revealed that most of the yield and yield contributing characters were significantly influenced by varieties and transplanting dates. Both the factors had significant effects on number of productive tillers m-2, number of grains panicle-1, 1000-kernel weight, grain yield and straw yield. The highest grain yield (5.94 t per ha) was achieved by Basmati-515 with the 22nd June transplanting date. So, it can be concluded from this investigation that Basmati-515 gives better results regarding yield and yield components when transplanted on 22nd June. It can also be determined from this research that early transplanting before mid of June and late transplanting after mid July causes significant yield reduction and should not be recommended among the farmer's community.
