The project TR 31006 of Ministry of science, education and technological development of the Republic of Serbia, named ’’Investigation of the possibility to use contaminated water to grow alternative, health secure crops’’ investigate a possibility to use potentially contaminated water with toxic elements to irrigate quinoa (Chenopodium quinoa Wild), buckwheat (Fagopyrum esculentum Moench.) and dinkel wheat (Triticum spelta L.). Study area is located at Deposols of thermo-power plant Nikola Tesla B in Obrenovac, Serbia. Irrigated water is percolated through thermo power plant ash deposits and has a variable quality. This type of studies enable the monitoring of changes in soil-plant-irrigated water system parameters. Adjacent to water quality monitoring, soil physico-chemical characteristics were determined before experiment set-up and after the harvest of above mentioned crops. The content of toxic elements in soil is determined in order to find the effects of irrigation water on their accumulation and migration in soil. This paper presents the results of particle size analysis and the content of some toxic elements in soil. The results indicate high heterogeneity of particle size in soil, where clay content varies from 15 to 50%, sand content varies from 7 to 77%, such as the contents of total arsenic and cadmium. Obtained data are spatially presented in GIS. The antropogenization of Deposols requested their mechanical cleaning and deep ploughing, as measures to homogenized their characteristics.
