The situation in poultry meat sector in Slovakia in 2009-2013

The contribution was aimed at the analysis of the situation in poultry meat sector of Slovakia in the period of 2009-2013. Decreasing poultry meat production has not cover its domestic consumption and so a part of domestic consumption must be supplemented through import. Competitiveness measured through the share of Slovak poultry meat products at domestic market has been deteriorated. According to the revealed comparative advantage indicator, we obtain competitiveness only with live poultry at EU and third countries markets. Negative is the fact, that Slovak poultry meat products with higher value added are not competitive at international markets.
