Powdery mildew is a widespread and frequent plant disease in tree nurseries. Its agents belong to the Ascomycota compartment of the Erysiphales line of fungi and are narrowly specialized pathogens. This means that they only infect plants of one species or only individual varieties or even varieties. So far, no studies have been conducted on fungal diseases in tree nurseries in Latvia, and there are no known which mildew agents are present. The aim of the study was to list the powdery mildew infected tree species and identify its agents in one of the Zemgale region tree nursery. Samples of leaves with visual symptoms of powdery mildew were collected during monitoring. Both stereo and light microscopes were used for identification. Powdery mildew triggers have been identified by the shape of the hasmotox suffixes, the number of axons in them, and the peculiarities of mycelium formation, based on the 2008 Glawe key-book (Glawe, 2008). The symptoms of mildew were observed on the leaves of different maple and oak species as well as on the birch and hazel leaves. Mildew pathogens were identified from three different genera of the Erysiphales order: Erysiphe, Sawadaea, and Phyllactinia. The observations should be continued because mildew pathogens have been poorly investigated in Latvia.
