Thorea hispida (Thore) Desvaux (as T. ramosissima Bory de Saint - Vincent) was first found in Serbia in the river Danube at the end of the 19th century. Further, T. hispida was reported for the Beli Timok (1996 and 2005) and the Sava (near the town of Šabac, 2008 ). On the territory of Serbia T. hispida is also rarely found with a low population density. This paper presents the new data on the distribution of T. hispida, discusses the ecology and morphological characters of this species and provides the comparison of morphological characters of the thalii between different sampling sites. Possible factors of endangerment of T. hispida are briefly discussed.
