The photodegradation of the carbamate insecticides methomyl and carbofuran in different types of water, in the presence/absence of TiO2/ZnO, using several light sources were studied. The effect of several operational parameters to degradation kinetics was investigated. The optimal concentration of catalysts was found to be 2.0 g L-1. On the base of the Langmuir-Hinshelwood mechanism, a pseudo first-order kinetic model was illustrated. The rate of photodecomposition of methomyl and carbofuran were measured using ultraviolet spectroscopy (UV) and high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), while their mineralization were followed using ion chromatography (IC) and total organic carbon (TOC) analyzer. The results of investigation are shown that the photochemical removal of the pesticides is applicable method for the purification of water.
