The territory of Serbia is vulnerable to wildfires, which have been increasingly frequent. Several variable and invariable factors affect the spread of forest fires. The forest fire risk assessment should reveal the factors that affect the vulnerability of forests against fire as well as the modes and intensity of their impact. The chronology of the fires in an area should point to the particular part of the area that is most vulnerable to fire. The number of fires in an area over a period of 10 years points to the periods when there is an increased risk of forest fires. The assessment of the significance of fire chronologies in the forest fire risk assessment was done for the test area of `Tara` National Park in the period from 2006 to 2015. `Tara` National Park is vulnerable to forest fires. The obtained results indicate that the risk of forest fires is the greatest in September (40.7%) and August (24.7%). A high risk of fire was also recorded in May (15.2%), which can be attributed to human activities and insufficient education of the population. There are no forest fires in the period from October to March.
