In this paper, a comparative analysis was carried out between Serbia and 28EU states by share of renewable energy sources (RES). Based on the share of energy from RES in the total received energy, the member states were divided into 3 clusters and ranked with K-means algorithm. After determining the position of EU countries, Serbia's position in relation to the EU countries was also determined. Serbia's import dependence on energy is 27.9%, what means that Serbia belongs to the first cluster. The results show that Serbia has a share of renewable energy in the electric power of 29.9%, due primarily to hydro potential. Due to the lack of legal regulations, the share of renewable energy in transport can not be measured, thus achieving a better position. Currently, Serbia is ranked 18th among the EU-28 member states.
