The development of rural areas represents an economic, social and environmental priority, and it can be said that tourism has the power to become the driver of this development. This paper highlights the importance of rural tourism as a factor of rural areas development. Evaluation has been done according to the qualitative-quantitative method as well as the survey technique (the survey was conducted on a sample of 312 respondents) and SWOT analysis of the villages Lipolist and Varna potentials in the municipality of Šabac. The aim of the paper is rural tourism affirmation, in both domestic and international markets. The results showed that the development of rural tourism is one of the key factors for the development of the Municipality
