Effects of different rootstocks on seed yield and quality of seedless watermelon grown in greenhouse

This study was carried out at the experimental greenhouse and laboratory of the Department of Horticulture, Faculty of Agriculture, Çukurova University during the growing season of 2017. Nun-9075 from Cucurbita maxima x Cucurbita moschata group, Argentario from Lagenaria group and PI296341 coded watermelon - Citrullus amarus were used as rootstocks. In control, the seedlings from these plants were grown without being grafted (non-grafted plants). Tetraploid ST 101 and diploid WL 92 lines were used as scions and two parents were grafted onto each rootstock. The aim of this study was to determine the effects of grafting on different pumpkins and watermelon rootstocks on seed yield and quality in watermelon. First and 50% male and female flowering time, fruit setting ratio, pollen viability test, pollen germination, number of anthers, plant height, main stem diameter, number of nodes, total yield, average fruit weight, average fruit height, average fruit diameter, fruit rind thickness, fruit yield, TSS, seed yield, weight of 1000 seeds, seed germination, seed emergence test, seed coat/embryo ratio measurements were done in this study. According to the results of this research, the total fruit yield and seed yield of the ST 101 tetraploid parent line observed to be higher in Nun-9075, Argentario and PI296341 rootstocks, and TSS value was found to be higher in control (non grafted plants).
