Effects of high temperature on morpho-physiological traits and grain yield of bread wheat
2017
Youldash, K.M.
The current study was conducted to evaluate the adaptability of wheat cultivars under hot environment by measuring of flag leaf, ear and peduncle traits, grain growth and yield traits. Fifteen wheat genotypes were grown at two different sowing date i.e. normal sowing date (cool environment) and late sowing date (hot environment) at the Agricultural Research Area of Agricultural Faculty in Cukurova University of Adana, Turkey, depicted variability in temperature during growing season which resulted considerable change in grain yield and yield attributes. The results revealed that grain yield was drastically reduced under hot environment as reflected in overall the reduction of biomass, fertile spikelet number per spike and kernel number per ear/,number per area. High temperature was caused reduction in grain yield over the 30%. Under investigation, high yielding cultivars achieved high grain yield in the both of cool and hot environment by the compensation of the grain weight and grains per area.
