Pamuk, S.
In our country, melons belong to Cucumis melo var. cantalupensis which are early, odorous and having netted fruit skin are mostly grown in protected cultivation. Cantaloupe melons do not have thick fruit rinds like winter melons, even they are liked and consumed due to their sugar content and flavored taste, their short shelf limits transport and export opportunities. In this context, development of cantaloupe melon varieties having long shelf life is of great importance. In this thesis study, 84 genotypes belonging to the GM3 population were pollinated with irradiated pollens. A total of 1104 flowers were pollinated and 700 parthenogenetic fruits were obtained of from these 700 fruits 1713 embryos were obtained and 1142 of them were transformed into plants. The transformation rate was found to be 63.4%. In vivo colchicine was applied to these plants and pure lines have been developed by selfing. Morphological characterizations of these pure lines were done according to modified UPOV descriptor list for 68 traits and significant variation was determined among the pure lines. In addition to measurements of plants and fruits, ethylene quantities of the pure lines were also determined.According to the research findings; lines 58-2 in early yield, 102-1 and 305-6 in total yield, 265-1 and 41-1 in fruit seed cavity width, 100-4 and 305-6 in fruit flesh thickness, 567-1 and 666-1 in fruit seal diameter, 409-1, 699-5 and 123-1 in TSS, 123-3 in fruit flesh firmness and 123-3 and 405-2 in ethylene content, were pointed out.
