Degraded areas are an unused resource, often with its visual form, the presence of different types of pollution and low safety have a negative impact on the perception and development of a particular area. By rethinking and returning these sites to the socio-economic circulation of the region, they could bring significant benefits to the development of a specific site/region. The guidelines for remediation of degraded areas include both theoretical knowledge and practical examples, and those intended as informative educational material for site developers and planners, entrepreneurs, municipal decision-makers and students, as well as for citizens interested in the issue of degraded areas.

Degradētās teritorijas ir kā neizmantots resurss, kurš bieži vien ar savu vizuālo veidolu, dažāda veida piesārņojuma klātbūtni un zemo drošību negatīvi ietekmē konkrētas teritorijas uztveri un attīstību. Pārdomāti revitalizējot un atgriežot šīs teritorijas reģiona sociālekonomiskajā apritē, tās varētu nest nozīmīgu labumu konkrētas vietas/reģiona attīstībā. Degradēto teritoriju remediācijas vadlīnijas ietver gan teorētiskās atziņas, gan praktiskos piemērus. Tās paredzētas kā informatīvi izglītojošs materiāls teritoriju attīstītājiem un plānotājiem, uzņēmējiem, pašvaldību lēmumu pieņēmējiem un studentiem, kā arī iedzīvotājiem, kurus ieinteresējis degradēto teritoriju jautājums.
