Vegetable soybean (Glycine max L.), also called edamame is an important vegetable in the world. The beans are harvested before they are fully ripe, when the pods are green and have just begun to turn yellow. The vegetation period of vegetable soybean in most cases is between 75 and 100 days. Most often the varieties cultivated in the world are of Japanese origin. The study was aimed to compare yield of two Japanese edamame varieties (‘Chiba Green’ and ‘Midori Giant’) depending on sowing density. The trials were performed at the Institute of Horticulture, Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies in 2017–2019. Two sowing density variants were evaluated (13 and 20 plants mE−2). Fresh pod yield was ranged between 2.9–8.6 t haE−1, higher yield was obtained for ‘Midori Giant’ in 2017 and 2019, and for ‘Chiba Green’ in 2018. Significant differences between sowing density variants were observed only in 2018.
