Competitiveness of Slovak food products

The paper is aimed at selected aspects of the competitiveness of Slovak food products on the domestic market in the period 2012-2016. In particular, it analyzes the relevant economic indicators of the food industry, the SR self-sufficiency in agri-food commodities, foreign trade exchange and the identification of the share of Slovak food products on the domestic market. The results show that the food industry as a whole reaches positive economic results, it has a sufficient raw material base for the processing of beef and poultry meat, grains, oilseeds and sugar from domestic production. On the foreign market with replaceable food commodities, the negative trade balance is growing, which is deepening over time. The largest share of Slovak products in the domestic market is provided by the brewing-malt industry, the share of the poultry and mill industry has been increasing in recent years.
