Genetics of P. grisea [Magnaporthe grisea] resistance and allelic relationship between resistance gene(s) were studied in 6 crosses: Khaolo 33XKalinga III, CR 544-1-1XRR 203-2, CR 544-1-1XRR 203-16 (resistant X susceptible parents); Khaolo 33XRR 215-2, ITA 257\multiply RR 203-2 and UPR 103-30-6XITA 257 (resistant X resistant parents). The F2, F3 and F4 (only 4 crosses) populations along with parents of each cross were evaluated for leaf blast resistance in an outdoor nursery. Both additive and dominance gene effects were important in the genetics of this trait. The resistance gene(s) present in UPR 103-30-6 and ITA 257 appeared to be allelic whereas, in the crosses Khaolo 33XRR 215-2 and ITA 257XRR 203-2, the breeding lines showed the presence of non-allelic gene(s). The F3/F4 progeny mean regression suggested that the performance of F3 progenies is a good predictor for effecting selection to improve blast resistance in rice cultivars.
