The covid-19 pandemic started and takes place during the development phase of society and the global economy in which the fourth industrial revolution takes place (often the term “Industry 4.0” is used, because this term is more accurate in terms of time and ongoing change processes and their vectors). Industry 4.0 foresees a materials union with digital technologies – the internet of cases, artificial intelligence, robots, and cloud computing, which analyses, communicates, cooperates with each other, allowing more flexible and faster for organisations, consumers and society take more balanced, accurate and data-based decisions. It is also part of the deployment of 5G technologies and increasing accessibility, the digital transformation of society and the economy and other aspects. The biggest success of Latvia and its various economic sectors during the Covid-19 pandemic is that Latvia already had a highly develop telecommunications infrastructure, which has enabled many companies to respond quickly and change both the organization of work and the sale and availability of goods and services. The biggest challenge now is not to anticipate the end of the crisis, but to continue to implement the ideas and solutions that lead Latvia through digital the transformation path. Large data and artificial intelligence technologies will allow for faster development – reaching or even overtaking the so-called traditionally highly developed countries.
