The use of methyl bromide fumigation as a quarantine treatment is increasingly restricted because of its ozone depletion characteristics. As an alternative flora gas are recommended though it has its restrictions. Ionising radiation is another possible alternative. However high dosage causes phytotoxicity in flowers. Thus efficacy of radiation as a quarantine treatment will be aimed at the inability of the pest to reproduce at the new location rather than causing immediate and complete mortality. Dipping of fungicides were found to reduce diseases during transportation.
