Metsulfuron-methyl dosages at 3.75,7.5,15 and 30 g/ha in carrier volumes 100,200,400 and 600 L/ha were evaluated for herbicidal activity in the presence and absence of surfactant using Diodia ocimifolia as the test species. As herbicide dosage increased from 3.75 to 30 g/ha, metsulfuron-methyl activity increased from less than 30 % to more than 90 % growth inhibition. This increase was dependent on carrier volume. The herbicide performance improved as the carrier volume is reduced from 600 to 100 L/ha. Carrier volume at 100 and 200 L/ha gave maximum activity irrespective of surfactant effect. At 400 and 600 L/ha carrier volume, the addition of surfactant enhanced the efficacy of metsulfuron-methyl againstD. ocimifolia significantly. The interaction effects indicated a significant influence of herbicide dosage, carrier volume and surfactant on the activity of metsulfuron-methyl .
