Advances on the development of artificial diets of Menochilus sexmaculatus fad. (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae)
1999
Mohd. Yusof Hussein | M. Sari | Khor, S. E.
An artificial diet based on cheap and readily available ingredients for rearing M. sexmaculatus larvae was developed to facilitate mass rearing of the predators. Laboratory tests were conducted to evaluate the new diet formulation i.e. the pollen-added powder diet and paraffin-wax droplets liquid diet. Overall, the diets were readily accepted by the larvae but growth was 50% slower as compared to live prey. Increasing the yeast content of the liquid diet has improved larval survivorship. The pollen-added diet was less effective in improving larval growth.
