Yield and growth performance of organically grown bayam (Amaranthus SP.)

A commercial organic fertiliser (80% chicken manure+ 20% sawdust) was evaluated on Amaranthus sp. grown on peat. Yields obtained were significantly lower with the commercial organic fertiliser (POF) compared to yields obtained with chicken manure. At 30 t/ha organic input, yields obtained with POF was only 10.7t/ha for the first crop while CM gave a yield of 28.3t/ha. The second crop with added organic fertiliser, gave yields of 12.3t/ha with POF and 30.7t/ha with CM. POF is clearly an inferior organic fertiliser compared to CM.
