The main anthropogenic factors impacting the population of the Russian sturgeon (Acipenser gueldenstaedtii Brandt et Ratzeburg, 1833) of the Caspian basin have been analyzed. It has been ascertained that one of the major factors is irrational fishery. Abundance analysis of the spawning part of population for a 40-years period showed its decrease by 20 times; the quality composition change was accompanied by the decrease of weight and length of the breeders. Assessment of the Russian sturgeon natural reproduction has been given on the basis of long-term data (1962-2005). It has been ascertained that with the decrease of spring runoff volume and abundance of breeders' pass, stock decrease takes place, the determining factor of which is population fecundity
