The chicken chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) is a simple, highly vascularizedextraembryonic membrane, which performs multiple functions during embryonicdevelopment, including gas exchange. This study aimed to investigate the development ofblood vessels after growth of CAM is complete. The present research included 75 fertilizedeggs of heavy hybrid “Ross 308”. CAM sampling for stereological analyses was performed at12th, 15th and 19th day. The results of the present investigation show that the increase inembryonic age results in an increase in circulation index which is also an indicator ofangiogenic processes developing in CAM. On the first sampling day (E12) the lowest value ofcirculation index was recorded (0.196), while the highest value (0.275) was recorded on thelast sampling day (E19). It can be concluded that as the embryonic development progresses, the circulation index increases, i.e. the CAM vascular system is extended to a larger surfacewhen compared to the entire CAM surface after growth of CAM is completed.
