The metabolic conditions of the negative balance of energy in cows (starvation, delivery and lactation) lead to accelerated and uncontrolled mobilization of fat from the body depots and their increased accumulation in the liver, disrupting its morphological and functional integrity. In peripartal period, fat infiltration and degeneration of liver cells often occur in milk cows. Namely, the presence of excessive amount of fat in the liver is a common finding in ruminants during late pregnancy and at the beginning of lactation. In dairy breeds of cows in the period around calving, moderate fatty infiltration of the liver is considered almost normal. In recent years, the clinical significance of fatty liver in the peripartal period of cows has become significant because of the link between decreased liver function and increased preference for the formation of many diseases in that period.
