Selective breeding involves the use of only those animals that are able of transferring only useful qualities to their offspring. With the initial goal of establishing the structure of a normal karyotype, Cytogenetics gradually transfers its main interest to the study of various karyotypic anomalies as well as the rate of their occurrence. According to a number of researchers, it is the cytogenetic methods that are leading in the study of mutagenicity of various factors and are almost the only methods utilized in the study of mutability in animal husbandry. In this regard, early cytogenetic assessment of young cattle will allow for identifying animals with unwanted changes in the karyotype.
