A new soil function, which is the use of agricultural outputs for energy purposes, was added to the primary production function of agriculture. Sustainable development associated with the effi cient use of natural resources is to ensure that the exploitation of natural resources and the related impact on the environment as well as on the soil quality does not exceed the carrying capacity. Dynamic monitoring of selected indicators of soil quality was realized in a special network of sites on soils used for planting fast growing willow (localities Kuchyňa, Krivá na Orave) and fast growing alder (locality Starňa). During the monitoring positive as well as negative trends on soil quality were determined. The negative trend was observed in the case of soil acidifi cation (decrease of pH value) and soil nutrient content, mainly phosphorus content. The positive trend was observed in the total risk elements content in soil. Remediation capability of willows was manifested with signifi - cant reduction of cadmium, zinc and nickel on the locality Kuchyňa. Total cadmium content decreased by 33%, total zinc content by 17% and nickel content by 31,6%.
