2014
Soylu, A.
In this study performed in 2012-2013 period; population density, habitat use, feeding, breeding, movement, intra and interspecific behaviors and threat factors of Common coot (Fulica atra L 1758) were studied in the Lake Kovada. We observed the highest number of individuals as 659 in 2012 and as 1600 in 2013. We counted 474 individuals in the station I (December 2012), 993 in the station II (August 2013) and 240 in the station III (December 2012). Nest preference of the species was determined as 53.1% for the station I, 43.8 % for the station II and 3.1% for the station III. Distance of nests to the main road, in I and II stations (n=31) were found statistically significant (p<0,01). We determined nest volume increased proportional to the distance from main road. Clutch size of the species changed between 1-9 eggs. Of 179 eggs (n= 32) counted in the study 89 were observed in station I, 83 in the station II and 7 in the station III. During the study, we did not observe any threat factors directly affecting the species in the area. However, we hope that population features will be optimized by conservative actions in the future.
